Referee repeated sprints

The repeated sprint test checks whether a referee can sprint fast again and again. Referees run 6 x 40 m with up to 60 s to start the next; assistant referees run 5 x 30 m with 30 s. Each sprint must be under the time limit for the chosen category.

  3. Six sprints in total.
  4. A sprint over the limit gets one extra; a second fail ends the test.

Questions

What happens if one sprint is too slow?

The referee gets one extra sprint. A second failed sprint means the test is not passed.

What are the time limits?

They depend on the category. For example, top men's referees must run each 40 m in 6.00 s or less.

What if a referee slips or falls?

The sprint is run again; it does not count as a failed sprint.
